This excerpt from Jackie Robinson's autobiography tells of the turning point in his career. After a long search, Dodgers president Branch Rickey chooses Robinson to help him achieve his dream of integrating major league baseball. Rickey warns Robinson that it will not be easy to be the first African American on the team and tells him that he will need courage and dignity to endure the insults he is likely to receive.
